A sufficient supply of calcium is essential, especially for young horses. Calcium is responsible for sufficient mineralization of the bone structure. Conversely, older horses experience signs of wear and tear on the bony skeleton and therefore increased calcium supplements have also proven to be very effective here. An increased calcium supplement is also advisable in horses with problems with the bony structures, such as bone cysts, fractures or with dental deficits, in order to compensate for the increased consumption of the organism. The same applies to pregnant and lactating mares. Here, the calcium requirement increases sharply during pregnancy due to the foal growing in the womb and during lactation due to the increased release of calcium through the milk. However, it should be noted that calcium and phosphorus are closely related.
For this reason, ATCOM OSTEO-PLUS also contains phosphorus. Since vitamin D3 is responsible for the absorption of calcium from the feed and for its storage in the bones, it was also added to ATCOM OSTEO PLUS. Vitamin K1 is important for the production of the protein osteocalcin, which is produced in bone-forming cells. This causes calcium accumulation in the bones. Here in ATCOM OSTEO PLUS we rely on the natural sources of vitamin K1: grape seeds and wheat germ.
