General tips for feeding horses with laminitis and/or metabolic sensitivity:
- · Required amounts of hay (possibly in combination with straw) approx. 1.5 to 2.0 kg of hay per 100 kg of body weight
- · Pay attention to the fructan and sugar content of the hay - water the hay if necessary
- · Feed reduced sugar and starch (be careful with grain and concentrated feed)
- · Sufficient supply of amino acids (via REHE-VITAL)
- · Sufficient supply of minerals, vitamins and trace elements (via REHE-VITAL)
- If you are overweight, slow weight loss (risk of hyperlipidemia)
- · Use feed with a low glycemic index (we recommend unmolassed beet pulp)
- · Dietary measures to support the colon flora (B vitamins, bentonite; contained in REHE-VITAL)
Feeding recommendation:
20 g ATCOM REHE-VITAL per 100 kg of the horse's body weight per day.
During situations of increased need (e.g. coat change) we recommend a dosage of 30 g ATCOM REHE-VITAL per 100 kg of body weight daily.
ATCOM REHE-VITAL is a pelleted supplementary feed. It must be mixed with the main feed in the specified quantities for each feeding.
Do I need to feed additional minerals or similar?
Feeding additional supplementary food can and should be avoided in order to avoid a nutrient imbalance or oversupply.
Note on feeding recommendations
Make sure you provide enough hygienic basic food. We recommend giving at least 1.5 – 2 kg of hay per 100 kg of body weight. Concomitant oral administration of macrolides should be avoided.
