These amino acids are called essential because the horse's body cannot produce them itself and must be supplied through food. Performance horses in particular have a very high need for these essential amino acids. Deficits in the ration of sport horses can be due, among other things, to restrictions in the protein digestibility of the hay, since in practice late-harvested hay is very often used. If such deficits exist, the muscles can be visibly poorly developed, but the entire metabolic function can also be severely restricted. Supplementing the ration with these essential amino acids can therefore lead to improved muscle development and relieve the burden on the entire metabolism. Because only an optimally functioning metabolism can achieve high performance.
